I can't stop listening to...

I don't usually post two music videos on a Thursday, but I've just been shown a fantastic cover by The Struts. Covering Stooshe's new single 'Slip', The Struts' version is a hell of a lot better. They did similar things with the Cheryl Cole song 'Under the Sun' a while back and it was in my head for weeks. To hear other covers from The Struts and some of their own music, check out their YouTube channel here.

Mozart's House - Clean Bandit

A strange but completely satisfying combination of classic and electro music. It shouldn't work.. but it does. It really, really does.

Dream A Little Dream Of Me - The Mamas & The Papas

This song has been looping in my mind for days now! It's currently on an advert on TV about getting children to go to bed at night. (It's actually a very strange advert where the adults can 'switch off' the children via a button at the back of their neck - a little creepy).

I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do. It's nice to hear it again.

BASTILLE // Overjoyed ( Official Video )

I heard this song live last Thursday and it was amazing. It sounds a lot better live than it does on the track which I find rather rare! But the drums and backing vocals were emphasized, making a much more beautiful sound.

♡ PART 7: "HOW TO BE A HEARTBREAKER" ♡ | MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS

Perhaps not the most appropriate song for Valentines Day, but a great song all the same. And there are half naked men dancing around in the video, so you can't go wrong really.

I can't stop listening to...

There's a new advert on TV for the Citroen DS3 with the tag line of 'Make a Scene'. The soundtrack to the advert is by a frenchman named Sebastian and the track is called Tetra.
It remind me of the kind of ringtone you'd find on your old Nokia 3310 mobile phone where the sound was very monophonic as it tried to re-create a grand classical song. However, this piece of music is great and excites me!

Take a listen:

I can't stop listening to...

That Girl - The Noisettes

A lot of people have compared this song to The Beatles track 'Please Please Me', and to some extent I agree! The chorus notes are very similar, and the great up-beat pop track is akin to the sounds of the sixties.

I've seen The Noisettes twice live before, and they are always amazing. Fantastic vocals!! I've not got the new album yet.. but I'll be sure to get it very soon! I can't wait to hear what other fantastic songs they have lined up!

Enjoy!

I can't stop listening to...

This week, I have three bands for you to listen to! The reason being is I'm going to a gig tonight where all three of these bands are playing. I know for a fact it's going to be an amazing night, as I really love a lot of the songs I've heard from the bands.

I've picked out a song for each band for you to listen to: Flaws by Bastille, Talk Through The Night by Dog Is Dead and I Just Know by The Struts.

Bastille - Flaws

Sunday Special: S is for... Shadows!

The Shadows were once one of the most influential bands of their time. Frequently referred to as 'The Shads', they had many charted singles, both with and without Cliff Richard.

George Harrison from The Beatles once said "without Shadows there would be no Beatles" and John Lennon has been known to have said "before Cliff and The Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music".

I've only just really started listening to The Shadows a lot, but I'm hooked. As a huge Beatles fan, I find it really easy to see where the influences have come from and can totally appreciate the great music that The Shadows made.

I'm a huge sucker for music from the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies and always will be. I feel that almost every musician from around that time had true talent. There wasn't the auto-tuned, electronic sound to it like the music we have today does, it always sounds so true and fresh and you can hear the pure talent.
If I could go back and visit any time in history, it would be a time from those three decades without a shadow of a doubt, not only for the amazing music but for the great fashion too!

Here's a Shadows track, probably one of the most well-known instrumentals the band ever did. It's also currently on a sausage advert here in the UK.

I can't stop listening to...

I woke up this morning with this song in my head, so it had to be my song of the week! It's the soundtrack of the fantastic TV show Beaver Falls. If you've never seen it, you need to get on it! A great mix of British and American humour in a show about three British guys and their time in an American summer camp. Enjoy!
