Rodarte Autumn/Winter 2008 Siamese Fighting Fish inspired dress designs

I was having a quick browse on the web to look at designs inspired by nature and ended up finding these beautiful dresses by Rodarte.

Inspired by Siamese Fighting Fish, (recognised mainly for the males long flowing fins and bright colours, ranging from reds, blues and whites) the dresses are really gorgeous. The fabric is loose and airy, giving the feel of the flowing fins, and the colours used are close to the actual hues of the fish.

The dresses look really classy and I really love the prints used.

My Online Portfolio

For my course I have to keep updating my online portfolio, which is used as an easy way to show anyone my work who needs/wants to see it!

'Poison Paradise' is the concept I am currently working
on. I did quite a lot of painting to better my skills, so did quite a lot of florals and as my concept included birds I painted them a lot too.

I've recently been working a lot in the print studio and
have finished 4 out of my 9 fabrics, which are shown in my portfolio now.

The link to my portfolio is in the 'Links' list at the top right of the page if you would like to see some of my work.

Christian Dior Haute-Couture A/W 2010

I think this Haute-Couture collection by Dior is amazing! With a theme based around florals, the outfits were all outstanding - especially the huge fairy-tale-esque dresses at the end.

The colours used were brilliant; a really beautiful range of bright, vibrant hues were contrasted with deep and powerful darks.

The fabrics used really made the clothes look like flowers as chiffons, tulles and silks were used to create petal-like skirts and trimmings. As the models walked down the catwalk the skirts flowed behind them and the fabric moved around so elegantly - it really looked like petals in a breeze!

This dress is my favourite piece of the whole collection.
I think it is so beautiful! The black fabric looks amazing with the contrast of the vibrant floral print underneath - I think the colours look amazing.
I love how the printed fabric underneath really looks like huge petals, and I also love how assymetric the dress is.

Hussein Chalayans Laser Dress - Readings S/S 2008

This is a video I found whilst researching for my essay on Hussein Chalayan.

It explains the making behind his LED Laser Dresses.. it's so interesting!

Hussein Chalayan collaborated with a design engineer named Moritz Waldemeyer to create this dress, and also to create his LED Video Dresses in Airborne A/W 2007 and his collection of moving robotic dresses in One Hundred and Eleven S/S 2007.

Here is the link for Moritz Waldemeyers website for more information on his works, including the collaborations with Hussein Chalayan:

Fabrics à la mode

This is an interesting article I found from the printweek website a while back.
It talks about how the textiles industry is using digital print more and more instead of the traditional silk screen printing.
